Indian Head Massage

available Wednesday afternoon

INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE IS BOTH AN ANCIENT AND MODERN FORM OF HEALING.

Massage has been practised since the earliest civilisations in India, Egypt and China. It has been used medically as a therapeutic healing treatment and also for invigorating, soothing and beautifying the body. Massage, or rubbing is an instinctive act for relieving pain and discomfort, and for soothing and calming. The use of oils for anointing and lubricating the body and especially the head, are refered to in the Bible and the Koran.

In the last thirty years Mehta, an Indian osteopath and massage therapist, has developed Indian Head Massage to specifically combat stress and tension in the shoulders, neck, scalp and face which can cause aches and pains, headaches, migraine and eyestrain. This technique employs a number of new and old massage movements, drawing on traditional Indian head and scalp massage, as well as using more conventional strokes. The massage concludes with work to unblock the uppermost chakra points, restoring balance and energy.

WHAT DOES A TREATMENT INVOLVE?

Massage of the shoulders, neck, arms, head and face using a range of massage strokes and movements: effleurage, petrissage, tapotement, vibration and friction. No manipulation is involved. The massage works to stimulate and to soothe.

You can choose to have treatment fully clothed or wear a towel around the trunk. Indian Head Massage is very versatile and as well as being given in clinic can be given in your home, at your office (or in India, on the beach!).

Optimal personally specific Indian Head Massage oils are available to lubricate and nourish the skin and hair .

An even bigger treat is the option of using a treatment oil for the hair, which nourishes the hair, and can help with a number of problems, such as dry skin, brittle hair or dandruff.
