When I visit an osteopath what can I expect? When
you first consult an Osteopath a full medical history will be taken.
You will normally be asked to remove some of your clothing so that the
mobility of your body can be evaluated by performing a series of simple
movements. In addition the Osteopath will then use a highly developed
sense of touch, called palpation to identify any points of weakness,
excessive strain or injury throughout the body. Lifestyle, work, sporting
and leisure activities will also be taken into account. How does Osteopathy work?Osteopaths work with their hands using a wide variety of treatment techniques. These include soft tissue technique, rhythmic passive joint mobilization or the high velocity thrust techniques designed to improve mobility and the range of movement of a joint. Gentle release techniques are widely used, particularly when treating children or elderly patients. This allows the body to return to efficient normal function. |

and competent practitioner and have agreed to abide by the code of practice.
